Who we are

The Southampton Education School is advancing policy and practice in education, teaching and learning around the world.

We are one of the UK's highest-ranked research institutes for research impact, currently ranked 7th within the latest Research Excellence Framework. We are also consistently delivering an excellent undergraduate learning experience, with the Guardian's University guide positioning us in the top ten for a decade.

The Education school is part of the University of Southampton, a leading research-intensive Russell Group University, ranked in the top 100 worldwide Universities by the QS World University Rankings 2020.

Through our research we aim to respond to some of today's key issues; how people will work, the health of future generations, the issue of social equality and how to ensure people have essential skills in science, technology, engineering and maths to help address environmental and other challenges.

We offer a full range of degrees and programmes from undergraduate, through PGCE and Masters, to PhD, as well as professional development for in-service teachers. Preparing our students to make a difference in education policy, education management, research, and teaching.

Shaping the future

We offer a variety of research paths including PhD, EdD, MPhil in Research Methodology and an Integrated PhD. The School also has a wide and varied programme of research seminars to which all are welcome.

Pushing the boundaries

Our research themes include leadership, lifelong learning, mathematics and science education and social justice.
